If you’ve spent any time driving your Toyota Tacoma off the beaten path (or even just commuting), you’ve probably experienced weird things while juggling multiple devices. Your phone slides off the dash during a hill climb, your GPS loses satellite connection at the worst possible moment, or your CB radio becomes impossible to reach when you need it most.
I’ve gone through dozens of mounting solutions in our customers’ Tacomas before finding setups that actually work. After thousands of miles of testing on everything from forest service roads to rock crawling trails, I’ve learned that a quality dash mount isn’t just convenient—it’s essential for both safety and functionality, and I’ll share everything with you in this guide!
Modern overlanding and off-roading often requires managing several devices simultaneously:
The factory dash simply wasn't designed to accommodate this tech ecosystem. And attaching phone holders or phone mounts on random spots in your dash just won't cut it. A proper mounting solution keeps your devices secure, visible, and accessible without blocking essential controls or creating dangerous distractions.
A dash mount can be considered a top Tacoma accessory that won't break the bank and produce benefits years into the future. Choosing the right dash mount for your Tacoma can feel overwhelming with so many options on the market. However, by focusing on a few key factors, you can find the perfect solution for your needs. Here are some tips to guide you:
By considering these factors, you can choose a dash mount that meets your needs and enhances your driving experience.
When it comes to dash mount options for your Tacoma, there are several types to consider, each with its own set of features and benefits. Here are a few popular options:
Each of these options offers unique advantages, so consider your specific needs and preferences when choosing the right dash mount for your Tacoma.
Generic mounts might work for casual driving, but they simply don’t hold up when the trail gets rough. A well-designed mount can provide a factory-like appearance and enhance the overall look of your Tacoma's interior. Tacoma-specific mounts are engineered to work with your truck’s interior contours and provide more secure attachment points.
"I learned this lesson the hard way when my universal suction cup mount detached during a moderate trail, sending my phone into the footwell at precisely the moment I needed help with navigation."
Consider not just how many devices you need to mount now, but what your future setup might include. The best systems are modular and expandable, allowing you to add or reconfigure mounts as your needs change.
Most serious off-roaders eventually end up mounting 2-4 devices, so planning for expansion from the beginning saves money and dashboard real estate.
In my experience, there’s a direct correlation between material quality and longevity. Opting for the lowest profile mount can minimize bulk while maintaining structural integrity, making it ideal for streamlined setups. Plastic mounts might look fine initially, but they rarely survive serious off-road use. Machined aluminum options cost more upfront, but typically outlast the plastic alternatives by years.
The vibration resilience of metal mounts also means your devices stay put even in high-vibration environments like washboard roads and technical rock sections.
The ability to reconfigure your mounting solution as needs change is invaluable. Look for systems with standardized attachment points (like RAM ball mounts or AMPS patterns) that allow you to swap components without replacing the entire setup.
Installation complexity ranges from simple clamp-on solutions to mounts requiring partial dash disassembly. Consider your comfort level with vehicle modification when selecting a mount.
After trying numerous options, the Expedition Essentials 3TPAM USB Powered Accessory Mount has become my personal favorite for serious off-road use. The machined aluminum construction feels indestructible, and the integrated USB power eliminates cable clutter.
What makes it stand out:
Our customers have had these installed for years, and they show zero signs of wear. The powered version is particularly useful for extended trips where device battery life becomes a concern.
During a recent week-long trip, this mount kept my iPhone, Garmin inReach, and ham radio securely positioned despite endless washboard roads and deep sand sections. The integrated power meant I never had to worry about battery life.
The Cali Raised Dash Mount is a well-balanced option for Tacoma owners looking for a clean, durable mounting solution without the need for integrated power. Designed specifically for 2024+ Tacomas, this mount blends form and function at an excellent price point.
What makes it stand out:
The Cali Raised Dash Mount is perfect for daily drivers and weekend warriors alike. It offers rock-solid stability without compromising the OEM look of your dash. For those who want a reliable and low-profile mounting platform, this one checks all the boxes.
A fantastic option for those who need serious device capacity without the integrated power features, this phone mount offers exceptional modularity.
What makes it stand out:
The ability to mount 3-4 devices on a single baseplate makes this ideal for those running complex navigation or communication setups.
The ICS Fab Dash Mount for the Tacoma is available in two sizes depending on your screen size: an 8-inch version and 14-inch version. Both sizes offer excellent versatility at a mid-range price point. The 14-inch version is particularly well-suited for managing multiple devices, but of course, you'd have to have a Tacoma with the 14-inch infotainment display.
What makes it stand out:
A friend runs the 14-inch version (since he has the latest Tacoma with the 14-inch infotainment) with a phone, tablet, and ham radio all mounted simultaneously, and the setup has remained solid through multiple Moab trips and countless forest service roads.
If you're looking for something that's low-profile and doesn't change the look of your dash too much, then the 67 Designs system is worth considering. Unlike the other options, this uses the top rail of your dash rather than mounting to specific points.
What makes it stand out:
The main downside is that the rail mount doesn't feel quite as solid since while it's made out of metal, it's usually attached to a plastic trim and the screw pattern is a bit narrow so you'll have some perceivable flex from time to time especially when you're attaching or detaching your phone. But it still holds up even if you have multiple devices while off-roading.
When shopping for a dash mount for your Tacoma, reading reviews and ratings from other customers is essential. Here are a few things to look for:
By considering these factors and reading reviews and ratings, you can make an informed decision and find the right dash mount for your Tacoma.
Once you've selected your base mounting system, consider these accessories to complete your setup:
Most of the premium mounts listed above include detailed installation instructions. Installation typically takes 1-2 hours, even for those with minimal mechanical experience.
After years of experimenting with various mounting solutions in Tacomas, I've found that investing in quality up front saves both money and frustration later. The difference between a $30 universal mount and a $200 Tacoma-specific solution becomes immediately apparent the first time you hit a serious trail. Buy once, cry once, as they say.
Remember that the perfect mount is the one that keeps your devices secure and accessible without becoming a distraction. A well-designed mounting solution enhances both the functionality and enjoyment of your Tacoma adventures.

Will these mounts work with phone cases?
Most quality device holders accommodate phones with cases. Look for adjustable-width holders if you use particularly thick protective cases.
Do I need to drill holes in my dashboard to install these mounts?
The premium options listed (Expedition Essentials, ICS Fab) use existing mounting points and require no drilling. Some less expensive options may require minor modifications.
Can these mounts be removed later without damage?
Vehicle-specific mounts that use existing attachment points can typically be removed without permanent modification. Adhesive or screw-mounted options may leave minor marks.
Will these mounts work with both Android and iPhone devices?
Yes, all the mounts listed are compatible with both platforms. The device-specific holders are typically adjustable to accommodate various phone sizes.
Are powered mounts worth the extra cost?
If you frequently take extended trips or use multiple power-hungry devices simultaneously, integrated power is extremely valuable. For occasional weekend trips, standard mounts with separate charging solutions may be sufficient.
