The 2019 Overland West Expo was our first time attending the event and we could not have had a better time. Our time in Flagstaff was spent meeting with past customers, current and future suppliers, and hanging out with like minded people. We also were fortunate enough to showcase our Overland F150 Build at the event.
The Overland West Expo took place in Flagstaff Arizona at Fort Tuthill from May 17th through May 19th. Since this was our first Overland Expo, we were not entirely certain what to expect. We knew that the event in 2018 saw 14,500 people from around the world and had roughly 365 registered exhibitors.
While we did not have any expectations, the event blew us away entirely. The 2019 Overland West saw over 22,000 people and had 405 registered exhibitors. This was a ~51% and ~11% percent increase respectively year over year. This is a true testament to the growth in the industry.
We headed out to the event on Wednesday, May 15th arriving in Flagstaff that evening. We joined the Overland West folks for the Gear, Beer, and Cool Ride Party which took place in Flagstaff. We had a great time walking through the downtown area seeing some super awesome rides and enjoying local craft beer which was being poured at some of the outdoor gear shops in downtown Flag. Peace Surplus featured Mother Road Brewing, Aspen Sports was serving Flag Brew, Mountain Sports was serving Wanderlust, and Babbits Backcountry was dishing out Lumberyard brews. Cool rides and fresh brews turned out to be a great way to start the 2019 Overland Expo West.
Since exhibitors could not setup booths until Thursday morning, we decided to hit the trail. We took off south out of Flagstaff into the Coconino National Forest and ended up near Marshall lake which turned out to be an awesome spot for the night.
Thursday morning came quick and it was time to setup our booth space and get it ready for the influx of people expected Friday Morning. Setup was relatively easy so we spent the rest of the day meeting with friends and partners who were also setting up at the event. People said that the temperature on Thursday dropped into the mid-20s but we really couldn’t tell as we were nice and comfortable in the Freespirirt Recreation Tri-Layer Adventure Series tent.
Friday was the first day the event was open and what a day it was. Our booth was somewhat off the beaten path but we still managed to talk with literally hundreds of Overland fans. The biggest hit at our booth was obviously the Overland F150 which featured a Leitner Designs Active Cargo System outfitted with a number of accessories including Gear Pods, Gear Pod XLs, Universal Mounting Plates, Hi-Lift Jack Mount, and Roof Top Tent Mounts. Another big hit was the DECKED Drawer System, Dirt King Upper Control Arms, and Fox 2.5 Shocks, and Freespirirt Adventure Series Tri-Layer Roof Top Tent. After wrapping up Friday it was onto Saturday where even more people were expected.
Saturday turned out to be another great day with what appeared to be even more people compared to Friday. Our friends Andy and Nicole from the Tres Amigos Offroad Club were also at the event and joined us in the booth with their 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma on Saturday. Their rig was a huge hit and featured a number of products we carry including the PrinSu Design Studion CabRack and PrinSu Design Studio TopRack.
On Saturday we had multiple past customers stop by the booth! It was great meeting with you all and putting faces with names. It was also great to meet all of the new fans during the event and sharing with them what Truck Brigade is all about! We handed out Truck Brigade Patches and Shirts as well to a number of lucky fans. Saturday continued long into the night, but we were ready for what was to come Sunday.
Sunday started off a little slower than the other days but that was probably expected since it was the last day and lots of people probably left early. Sunday was really similar to the prior days with the meeting of fans and customers. We also spent some time walking around to see some of the companies we have current relationships with and even strike up some new relationships. We saw tons of our friends including, Leitner Designs, CBI Offroad, PrinSu Design Studio, MaxTrax, Rigid Industries, Expedition Essentials, Smittybilt, Tembo Tusk, Rago Fabrication, DECKED, and many more. Rain started to set in during the early afternoon putting a quick stop to the long weekend at Fort Tuthill County Park.
The Truck Brigade crew ended up staying in the Flagstaff area on Sunday night and headed out Monday morning through Sedona and other parts of Arizona in route to home.
The 2019 Overland Expo was such an awesome experience and we honestly can’t wait for 2020. Much of our time was sharing our product knowledge with fans and customers in addition to letting everyone know what Truck Brigade is all about. Another awesome highlight of the event was discovering new and upcoming products and meeting with new brands. If we did not see you there come find us next year! Also, for all you East Coasters come find us at Overland East this year October 11-13 in Arrington, Virginia.
